Anyone who has anything to do with the contemporary street art world (which is more than you may think) have no other option than to hightail it to NYC this weekend for the Shepard Fairey “May Day” art show being held at the renowned Dietch Gallery this Saturday afternoon through the end of May.
It’s been a while since Fairey and his street team have participated in a public show of this caliber since the start of his ongoing legal battles with the Associated Press and his now-iconic rendition of President Obama’s image, but a great deal of preparation has gone into the installation. So much so that Fairey and his team decided to hold a pre-show where some of the 300 lucky patrons were able to meet-and-greet with the man himself and participate in a book signing.
A great deal of his works will be centered on images by Martha Cooper who was best known for documenting a great deal of New York graffiti during the 1970s and 80s.
The show promises to be one that was well worth the wait.
