Artist Brian Rea Discovered Fear is One Helluva Motivator

Emotional, physical, political, supernatural, natural … these are all categories of Artist Brian Rea’s fears and he isn’t afraid to share his heebie-jeebies with the world.

Brian started his catalog of consternation while living in New York in 2008.

After being there for 11 years, I discovered like most people I had a lot of fears–after a few months, I began to catalog them: physical fears, natural fears, political fears, random, emotional.

Rea first outlined his project on blackboard using chalk and then painted over with white paint. The show is up until June 6th. Located in a creepy never ending dimly lit hallway.

“Exit Through The Gift Shop” – Screening

Banksy’s first film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” premiered this week in a grimy little dungeon like atmosphere underneath the waterloo station in London. Banksy coined his improvised theatre “Lambeth Palace”  refering to it as “London’s newest, darkest and dirtiest purpose-built cinema”.

The space boasted several original creations of banksy’s including the Paranoid pictures logo, a hand rolled red carpet, the queen and prince phillip unveiling an anarchist sign, and a bondfire that seems to be burning 18-19th century portraits of Napoleon and Queen Victoria.

The Film itself has interview scenes with Banksy which appear to interview a hoody that sounds like darth vadar, but none the less it gives a little insight into his character that we havn’t witnessed before.

With over 4,000 illegal billboards serving as eye sores in the Los Angeles area it’s a breath of fresh air to hear the city is swapping 21 billboards across with art.  The  exhibition “How Many Billboards” is presented by the MAK center for Art and Architecture and will last through the rest of February and March 2010.

State Of the Streetwear Nation

We are all aware that the streetwear scene is no longer just an unnoticed urban wear subculture for skaters, hip-hop artist, punksters, and the tweens holding it down in the back of the bus. It’s rapidly becoming the fashion of choice for the independent, a brand for the self sufficient, a culture of truth seeking conscious hustlers that aren’t going to settle for your 9-5 at Bank of America mr. Brian Moynihan. Streetwear is defining a culture of independent freelance contractors, DJ’s, Application builders, Entrepreneurs, beat blenders, Myrrh and frankincense delivering, bread winning, table spinning, paint slingin, number pushin, true bonafied icons of our generation.

If you are activly trying to exploit our demographic, you will fail. If you are in our realm to falsely influence, define, or bucket … you will FAIL. We make our own choices, we define what this scene is. Your logo won’t create a new following, your advertisements wont instill hype. Your tattoo inspired t-shirt graphics that ultimately end up on the latest tj-max underwear designs won’t make us feel cool Ed Hardy. We stand for truth, honesty, good design, and brands that reflect individuality.

If you want to reach us you are the wrong person. You don’t reach us, we reach you. Create compelling design and we will find you. Soak yourself in originality and stop stealing your next season from last seasons success.

We like football, we hate football, we like fashion, we hate fashion, we like tits, we … like tits. We are disgusted with the systematic schemes put in place by you greedy fucktards. We will take you over, we are creating an economy supported by those we trust. Your spam emails, fake twitter reply’s, phony tagged photos, lame facebook event invites aren’t going to sell your products. YOU sell your products, if you suck then YOU will fall by the wayside. Save yourself some time and make some rip off affliction t-shirts, because we are the last so called demographic that will be easy to reach. If you’re in this business be in it for truth, be in it for innovation. If your in it to verify your existence your existence will be lost.

You are a child to me, so suck my tits if you’re trying to form a standardized industry.

Confessions of an Aristocratic Sintient Machine

Sintient is a term we coined from the word “sentient” as the awareness of sin. Inspired by John Perkins Confessions of an economic hitman Sintient speaks specifically about our awareness of the sins and injustices of an aristocratic corporate America. The sintient machine is a term referring to the corporatocracy driven government that is aware of there sin and have gradually taken the reigns of our democracy.

sintient_machine

The concept of the sintient machine is simple. Two core points create the elixir of their shady intentions; One Corporations often find their interest entangled with government affairs. Two, Political parties and political party candidates rely heavily on financial support from the major bread winning corporations. These two ingredients create an elixir of shady contributions and questionable political decisions that are typically tailored to fit the interest of the corporatocracy above those of the common people.

Also adding fuel to the sintient machine are many “former” corporate executives are appointed in high positions within our government often still remaining in cahoots with there former affiliates looking after their best interest. Generally after serving their term in office and proving loyalty to a cause they are handsomely rewarded with lucrative offers from the same entities their decisions benefited. This is known as the “revolving door” concept and can lead to a regulatory capture of an industry or sector.

When we take in consideration that the richest 1 percent globally own about 40% of the world and majority of these individuals have ties to the wealthiest corporations which in return are the major contributors to our political campaigns, it’s easy to see there really is no secret who is running the world. How can we expect our politicians to make ethical choices for the people when there sovereignty doesn’t rely on public opinion but on corporate contributions?

With that being said, let’s now take a look at our nations budget…

6% Goes to our health, 9% goes to education, training, employment and social services, 3% goes to our environment while an astounding 52% goes to war and national defense. What this reveals is a corporatocracy influenced government strengthened from a military-industrial complex that has forced our nation into a permanent war driven economy first predicted by president Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The corporatocracy is the dominant force in today’s society much like the church, the monarchy, and the communist party in other times and places. The only difference is that a corporation is required by law to put the interest of stock holders above all other interest. Even the greater good of the people. So corporations have one common goal … increase bottom line at all cost.

As injust as all this sounds the brutal reality is there is one to blame. Yourself. You are the fuel for the aristocrats sintient machine and have unintentionally provided fuel for it’s takeover. Clever advertising has gave these entities friendly faces that we can relate to on an emotional level hiding the true shadow body of these conglomerates. To affect change we must stop supporting these entities for cheap prices and convenience sake. Together we take a few small sacrifices to ensure a brighter immediate and long term future for our civilization. In a future article we will discuss the best methods for this sort of action and specific exploits that will help empower the individuals rise against.

Banksy ‘IKEA PUNK’ Street Art Defaced By Krylon Kiddies

A Banksy street art piece IKEA PUNK which we reported on here in september and later confirming Banksy authenticity here (after a banksy.co.ukupdate) has been defaced. Ironically the defacing occured during a public vote that was taking place urging the Sutton council to preserve the street art using the same style graffiti the piece was criticizing.

banksy ikea punk defaced

Could this have been an intentional act of irony by Banksy? Or just another Can kiddie doing his fisher price my first graffiti piece high on krylon fumes marking his territory like a feral kitten. Either way it’s unfortunate considering that more than 93% of the 250 voters had cast there vote to keep the piece in tact. Unlike the majority of street art and graffiti, Banksy’s street art is widely accepted by the mainstream in bristol. It doesn’t hurt them to keep it up economically speaking either… 300,000 plus visitors traveled to Bristol earlier this year to view his graffiti and to attend the Banksy Vs. Bristol exhibition.

Sadly enough this isn’t the first time a Banksy piece has been defaced prooving preserving street art is sort of like trying to keep an ice sculpture from melting.

Don’t Let Greg Craola Simkins middle name full you, his drawings, artwork and street art is far from childs play. Greg spent the majority of his life chasing monsters underneath his bed. After years of being trapped in the underworld greg finally conquered the forgotten lands and has now emerged to share with the world his insanely grandeur visions inspired from Old masters, carnival kitsch, pop culture, nature, and most importantly a slightly warped imagination.

Improvise – Street Art in the moment.

ufo-street-art
Some of the best street art pieces are the ones contingent on the observer being at the right place at the right time. It adds a whole new dimension of value to a piece that is only appreciated during rare moments. Some of these street art pieces are dependant on time, some on place, and some just require a sense of humor.
